At the beginning, they are usually surprised by these things happening. One woman was sitting at an outdoor table, when a car not 100 feet away blew up. So there is a huge shock value, but at the time they've already picked up the phone to find out they're on the 'show.' It's like they are on a Hollywood movie set...but they are the only ones not in the film. What would *that* be like? The best one I've seen so far was when they had mobsters shooting at them as they were searching through wrecked cars at a scrap yard. They were ducking, screaming, etc. So being there as a contestant, it must feel somewhat real to react like that. Oh, and when one team is eliminated they do make it appear as if they've been 'offed' by the bad guys. Of course, the camera cuts off before we see anything happen, but the lead up to it is pretty convincing. You should check it out. Kris Good question.
