Surprise of the day

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

I’ve mentioned before how I obsess over Fictionwise. The minute one of my books goes live on their site, I check it at least once a day to see if there are any reader reviews posted (most important thing to me) and where I’m ranked. I can also click on my name link and see my books ranked by popularity.

This was the shock of my day: VARGAS GIRL is now ranked as my best selling book???!!!

I’m not sure I really believe it yet. I mean, it’s only been on the site for a few days. How could that possibly be? And, trust, me it was not a smashing success when it was released. (I blame that on the title…*I* might know what a Vargas Girl is, but doesn’t mean the rest of the world knows.)

I’m curious to find out what the next few days brings…reviews or moving further up the charts or what.

I suppose what I should be doing in concentrating on finishing BEEF CAKE. I want to sub that story as soon as possible. Concentrate on NEW stuff, not on OLD stuff. But sometimes that can be so hard….

Get Your Red Hot Vargas Girl!

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Yes, the day has arrived. VARGAS GIRL is available starting today on Fictionwise.

Click here to buy your copy!

Just a little shopping hint for all of you who like a good sale. For the first week of its release, you get a 15% discount off the cover price!

Once again, I am most likely going to be living through another round of Fictionwise obsession, wherein I check the site daily to see if there are reader reviews or where the book might be ranked. It’s a terrible, terrible thing.

The first sex scene

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I knew that headline would grab someone’s attention. Yes, today I’m talking about sex.

Last night, I reached the point in my new book, BEEF CAKE, where the heroine meets the hero for the 2nd time. And there is some hot and nasty sex. Well, I haven’t quite gotten to the ‘hot and nasty’ part yet, but there is clothing removal, kissing, and some other nice little things going on so far.

I love writing the first sex encounter between the hero and heroine. There’s something to be said for the first time. Lots of big emotions, trust issues perhaps, fears maybe….and learning to let go with someone new. *The* someone. A lot of raw emotions.
My hero and heroine have one of those undeniable attractions going on. It helps when he’s a fantasy man conjured up by a magical cookbook!

I want the first sexual encounter to be explosive. Different. Memorable.

Today, I’d like to finish writing this scene. Let’s hope I can find some peace and quiet so that I can concentrate on sexy things. It’s hard to ‘get in the mood’ to write a scene like this one when your kids are interrupting you every half hour or the cat is meowing for attention.

What do you, as a reader, like to see in a sex scene? Anyone brave enough to answer??

Falling behind…

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Ack! I am behind already on my tv viewing. Shows are stacking up on my TiVo. And I don’t know when I’m going to catch up.

List of stuff I want to watch:

1) the rest of “The Mentalist.” I’ve only watched 15 min. so far

2) “Ugly Betty”

3) “My Name is Earl”

4) “Supernatural”

That’s about 3.5 hours of viewing. Thank goodness there’s nothing much on tv tonight or tomorrow, so I can play catch up. However, I *had* to waste 2 hours this morning watching “Iron Man” with my kids (today’s one of those teacher in-service days).

I also messed up and didn’t tape “Heroes” this week, so I need to find that online to see if it’s worth watching. I also still haven’t seen the pilot of “The Mentalist.” I’ve downloaded it, but then my version of QuickTime went all squonky, and I have a lovely picture but absolutely no sound! Sigh…

Oh, and did I mention that I need to be writing my two stories that are both about halfway finished?

Priority has to be my writing. HAS TO. I got very very far in a short period of time with BEEF CAKE, and I don’t want to stop! The ideas are there, I just need to get them down on paper.

(and how many writers and wannabe writers have you heard say THAT?)

Talking about it is not DOING it. And I am determined to DO it.

Vargas Girl on Fictionwise & Pushing Daisies

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Strange combo for a blog post, I know. One part announcement, one part tv commentary.  Let’s do the announcement portion first, shall we?

I just found out a day or so ago that my book VARGAS GIRL will be winging its way to Fictionwise most likely next Monday. This is a good time to buy, because Fictionwise gives discounts for the first week a book is available on their site. So take advantage, if you haven’t read it…who doesn’t like a good sale?

VARGAS GIRL is a book about mistaken identity, pin up models, and a very sexy art collector. If you don’t know what a Vargas Girl is, why don’t you read my (adult) post on the topic?

Now, on to “Pushing Daisies.” Another favorite show of mine that returned this week.  This show is like nothing else on tv. I don’t know quite what to characterize it as…a mystery show?  a romance? a fantasy?  All three I guess. It just has a lot of heart. And you always end up smiling at the end. I’m glad to see all my favorite characters back. The snappy dialogue. The nutty mysteries. The pie!

So glad to have the writers’ strike over.

And there are still more good shows to come - the “24″ movie in November, “Battlestar Galactica,” “Lost,” etc.

What new or returning show are you looking forward to seeing?

Cobblestone Press Scavenger Hunt

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

If you haven’t taken a peek at the rest of my website lately, check out the new little graphic in my sidebar! (go ahead and look, I’ll wait…)

I’m participating in a Scavenger Hunt with Cobblestone Press. A bunch of CP authors have put up all kinds of interesting prizes. My addition to the mix is a deck of cards with my GOING DOWN cover on the front!  They are very cool…and something different from the usual pens and magnets. There will also be free books, gift certificates, and more!

If you click on the graphic there’s a link to a forum posting. Right now the contest hasn’t yet begun, but you can bookmark the link and revisit when the hunt is live.

Should be a ton of fun. So make sure to keep an eye on it!
