Author Interview: Jamieson Wolf
Monday, June 2nd, 2008My first male author interview! Jamieson Wolf is a Canadian writer who recently had his first release with Cobblestone Press–an m/m romance called VALENTINE. Check out the sexy cover art:

Let’s find out more about Jamieson, his book, and what he’s working on now:
Q. What genres do you write?
A. I write contemporary, historical and paranormal romance. I love working in different or cross genres because that way I don’t get bored with what I write and everything stays new and fresh.
Q. What can you tell us about your newest Cobblestone Press release, Valentine?
A. Valentine is the story of Valentine, a sorcerer in the heyday of the Roman Empire. Though Claudius has made a decree forbidding marriage, Valentine weds people in honor of the God Lespercus.
He knows that his magic, his work, comes from a higher power than the Roman Emperor. When he is visited by Asterius, the chief of the Roman Guard, Valentine falls in love with him. But how can he love someone who is supposed to be an enemy?
Valentine will have to free his heart and face death in order to become the man of legend…
Q. Valentine is an historical romance of a different kind…it takes place during the height of the Roman Empire. What made you choose such an interesting time for the setting of your story?
A. Well, I am a big history buff and I’m always reading to find out more about what happened in the past. I also love myths and legends that surround us. Last Valentines Day I was reading up on the history of the day and was astounded to find out that Valentine was indeed a real person.I read about how he was imprisoned for marrying people against the edict of the Roman Emperor and the Catholic church. While he was in prison his jailer, Asterius, had a daughter. Before Valentine was executed, he healed the daughter, restoring her sight. He then gave her a note that said “from your Valentine”.
The idea of this stuck with me. What would it have been like, I wondered, to defy an empire, to defy a church body and marry people in secret? What would it have been like to have the power to heal, the strength to face his own death?
I started thinking about Asterius, too. I wondered what would have happened if Valentine had gotten to know his jailer in a more intimate way.
And the story sprung to life.
Q. I notice on your website, you have another book coming out with Cobblestone Press under their Wicked line. What can you tell us about that story?
A. I’m so thrilled about my new book which is titled Finding Beauty. I’m so happy to have something published in the Wicked line. It’s the first time I’ve written a very sexual story and I had such a blast writing for it.
Finding Beauty is about Owen.
Having never thought of himself as beautiful, Owen wonders if he will ever find someone to love. He loved someone, a long time ago. But the love was never returned.
Deciding to look for Beauty, Owen finds temporary solace in the arms of an unnamed stranger. Leaving him, he watches as two men explore each other’s passion in a very public place.
But when he receives a phone call from that long lost love, he feels torn. Can he forgive Marc for past betrayals or can he let the love, the beauty, inside of him free?
Finding Beauty will be out later this year!
Q. What are you working on now?
A. Right now I’m working on a paranormal gay romance about werewolfs called The Other. It’s going well after a long period of writers block. I have finally figured out a few things about how I want the story to go. Thank goodness! It was driving me crazy for a little bit there.
Q. How long have you been writing professionally?
A. Gosh, for a long time now. Let’s see, I started writing professionally when I was eighteen or nineteen. I’m turning thirty this August, so that’s about thirteen years. It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long but how time flies!
Q. What was the first story you ever remember writing?
A. The first story I remember writing was way back in grade five. It was a myth about a camel that wore a sweater at night because he didn’t like to shiver in his sleep. I don’t remember much else about the story but I do know that my story telling has improved greatly since then.
Q. Does your cat knock over her water bowl as often as mine does???
A. Nope, but she does wake me up in the morning for food by stepping all over my bladder. When she wants food, she can be very insistent. LOL
Hope you enjoyed it, everyone. You can visit Jamieson’s website and blog for more about him and his writing. His book, VALENTINE, is now available at Cobblestone Press.
